Family Summer Activity Send-Off

Family Summer Activity Send-Off

School has started but you still have a little bit of summer weather left for a few last adventures.  Before sweater weather kicks in, try these ideas for a last summer hurrah as a family.

End of Summer Bucket List

Let each family member pick one or two last things they want to do before summer weather is gone.  This could be a last trip to the pool, a campfire up the canyon, sleeping under the stars, or cutting up one more watermelon.

Write the list down, hang it up to see, and pick dates for each thing to get them all done.

Backyard Adventure Roundup

Plan one more backyard play-day and pull out all the outdoor play favorites.  Jump on the trampoline, time yourself on the Ninjaline, eat popsicles, and turn on the sprinklers.  It’s a perfect way to spend one more hot Saturday together.

We suggest snagging one of our favorite outdoor items before summer ends.

Plan a Screen-Free Day

Inevitably, when cold weather comes we spend more time indoors and on screens.  That’s not terrible, but while you can, enjoy a full day of no screens.  Pick a Sunday and make a pact as a family to focus on board games, crafts, a family walk, cooking together, or a good old-fashioned Sunday nap.  You could even go to the mountains where you wouldn’t have service anyway!

For littles, pull out the StairSlide for some screen-free fun.

Preserve Some Memories

Pick an evening to spend together and recap your summer and prep for a shift in schedules.  Have everyone share their favorite thing you did during the summer, and what they’d like to remember for next year.  Share anything you are excited about or nervous for with the new school year, and make a plan to support one another.  Cast some photos to the TV to remember some of your favorite summer experiences together.

Pick one of these ideas and plan it into your week.  With a great end to the summer, you’ll be ready to dive right into cooler weather, school schedules, and holiday fun.  Every season has its magic!
