Fall Is Actually the Best Season for Outdoor Play

Most of us get excited about Fall because it’s a cozy season to curl up inside - but don’t underestimate how amazing the season is OUTSIDE!

The Weather

Fall weather is perfect for kids to spend time outside.  The sun during the day keeps things warm and you don’t need heavy layers, but it’s not too hot!  The UV Index is lower with the Earth’s tilt so you don’t need to worry about overheating, dehydration, and sunburn. You may just want to lay out in the Dreamcatcher Swing for a sunny cat nap! The cool breezes feel amazing, and you won’t want to go back inside.  But the best part?  It gets dark earlier, so it’s way easier to get kids inside for bedtime.

The Nature

Fall provides a unique time to enjoy beautiful natural scenes you don’t get any other time of year.  Take a walk to enjoy the changing leaves.  They are crunchy and colorful - perfect for even little kids to enjoy!  Visit an orchard or pumpkin patch to see fruit and vegetables growing.  Lots of kids don’t know where these foods come from.  Try finding a chestnut tree (or maple, cottonwood, box elder, etc.) that drops seeds or pods. Open them up and explore what makes these trees grow.

Health Benefits

As winter approaches and school starts again, most families with kids start to get sick more often.  Spending time outside has multiple health benefits to prepare for flu season.  The sunshine provides essential vitamin D for our bodies.  Fresh air strengthens and stimulates the immune system.  In both children and adults, spending time in natural light and fresh air can regulate moods and sleep patterns for better rest and reduced stress.  Physical activity is important in any season, and active outdoor play like climbing or swinging keeps kids’ bodies healthy and resilient.  You probably won’t avoid ever getting sick, but your family will recover much more easily and quickly!

Fall passes quickly in most places, so take advantage of the gorgeous weather and spend as much time as possible outdoors.  We promise you won’t regret it!
